2024 Moonlight Snowshoe/Walking Tour

January 20, 2024, 7:30pm, Rogers Island Visitors Center.

Join us for a historic tour of Rogers Island by the light of the January Moon!

We’ll gather at the Visitors Center at 7:00pm to prepare and organize before heading out in the moonlight for the approximately 1 mile tour at 7:30pm.

As we tour the Island, our knowledgeable tour guide will tell the of Island’s history and its inhabitants, explain its importance in early American history, and describe the important archaeological excavations conducted by Dr. David Starbuck.

We’ll stop for a “warm-up” at one of the Island’s picnic tables with a view of the moonlit river where members of “Rogers Rangers” will answer questions about life on the island. Snacks and local beverages will be provided as we gather around a campfire. Warmed and refreshed, we’ll finish the tour before heading back to Visitors Center.

*****We will be traveling on unlighted, unmaintained paths, over uneven ground, and through fields. Appropriate winter clothing and footwear are required. Snowshoes/skis are not required but micro-spikes are recommended to prevent slipping, especially if there is only light snow cover. Bring your own flashlight or headlamp. Event is weather dependent. Rain, extreme cold, or very icy conditions may cause us to postpone. We will not postpone for lack of snow. If we don’t have snow we will walk the trail instead. *****

Pre-registration is appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome. In the event of postponement, it will be posted on the website, social media, and those who have registered will be notified. “Raindate” will be February 17, 2024

$10 per person. Children under 12 free. Register with the form below or by calling the Visitors Center at 518-747-3693.
